Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Campbell 71, passed away peacefully Saturday morning May 4, 2019. Mary was born August 12, 1947 to Paul and Eunice Anderson in Newton, Kansas. Oldest of 6 children, Mary loved looking after her younger siblings and enjoyed growing up with numerous relatives in the neighborhood.

Life was beautiful growing up in Newton. Fishing, camping, picnics, church activities, climbing apple trees to read her favorite books and lots of family gatherings kept Mary’s heart full. In 1957 Mary’s family moved to Washington where she graduated from Mountlake Terrace High School and would later meet her husband Tom at a church function. Mary and Tom married in 1966 and had 3 children. Although they separated later in their relationship, they remained friends through the years and built a strong family foundation for their children.

Mary was an active Church of God member where she enjoyed singing in the choir, mentoring young mothers, cooking at summer camps, arranging flowers and serving others in any capacity she was called to. Mary’s love of God and His teachings shown through in her warm smile and her loving personality. As an anointed Deaconess, Mary had a faithful servants heart and was dearly loved by all who were blessed to know her.

Some of Mary’s most treasured memories were those of helping more than 200 babies make their way into the world including all of her own children's first born sons. As a midwife’s assistant and labor coach she was in her element helping mothers give birth and teaching them how to care for their new arrivals. Her patience and calm, caring demeanor will be missed.

Among Mary’s favorite pastimes were sewing, baking wedding cakes, coloring beautiful pictures, treasure hunting and trips to the beach. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was where Mary would always choose to be. Teaching them how to bake, passing on her favorite recipes, building blanket forts, having slumber parties and sleepovers. These memories made, will forever be cherished.

Mary is survived by her husband Tom Campbell, son Tom and wife Lindsay Campbell, daughters Meg and husband Herschel Gates, Melanie and husband Marcus Handy. 6 wonderful grandchildren JR, Keith, Shawn, Duncan, Quinlen and William. 5 siblings, many adored nieces and nephews and countless friends that she called family as well.
