Obituary

Karen Jean Hoffman was born July 1st, 1959 in Alexandria, LA to Evelyn Eileen Davis and Harry Hope Hoffman.

She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints June 24th, 1972 and after graduating Sequoyah High School in Doraville, GA at the age of 16, traveled across the country to attend BYU in Provo, Utah.

While visiting Salem, OR in 1979 to meet her sister’s new baby, she met David Fredrickson. The couple shared a whirlwind romance and, after a brief courtship, were married on May 15, 1979 in the Manti Utah Temple.

They welcomed their first child in May of 1980 and five more shortly thereafter. Karen loved nothing more than spending time with her family; teaching her children to love learning, sports, the outdoors, and helping others.

After kids were grown, she accomplished her lifelong dream of finishing a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse in 2011, eventually going on to teach Nursing at the Institute of Technology in Salem, OR.

She passed away surrounded by family on Sept 5th, 2021.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Alex.

She is survived by her husband, David, siblings, Terry (Celia), Harry (Cindy), Michael(Robyn), Mark(Marty), Charmaine, Bryan, her children, Kelly(Chad), Danielle(Kristian), Zachary(Genevieve), Mark(Sariah), Andrew(Whitney), and grandchildren: Isabella, Madeline, Harlie, Jacee, Adelaide, Søren, Solveig, Laila, Novik, Torbjørn, Grace, Hannah, Emily, Connor, Rose, Everett, Anders, and Finnegan.

  4. Charlie says:

I remember KJ always had a fun competitive streak, inspired by 5 brothers no doubt. I know they taught me to run fast! (lol) Karen LOVED sports! Our family had a beautiful Welch dresser from England, often a center of conversation in our living room. Amidst the Hummel figurines and fine china collectibles, Karen's many 'All Star' sports trophies proudly adorned the shelves, more trophies than all her 5 brothers combined.

She was happiest when playing sports or cheering on her husband, children and grandchildren in sports. When she drew very close to her Father in Heaven, she radiated a beautiful angelic glow and an unrivaled peace.

Sis, the two beautiful trees you planted, as the leaves cheerfully continue to flutter about in the wind, sending out silvery sparkles of light, we will know yours and Alex's love, is shaking the cheering sections in heaven, leading out the hoorahs, sending love and sparkling kisses to your David, children, grandchildren , great grandchildren and many loved ones.

Love you, Sis. See you on the other side.
