Sylvia Louise (Jensen) Lockyear

Sylvia Louise (Jensen) Lockyear (Nov. 22, 1926 – June 13, 2024) died peacefully in Salem, OR surrounded by her family.  Born in Eugene, OR to Lawrence and Genevieve (Kennedy) Jensen, she graduated from University High School in Eugene and was a 1948 graduate of the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and was a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, the U.S. honorary national mathematics society.

In 1963, she met the love of her life, Robert W. Lockyear, and they were married for 33 years, until his death in 1996.  Sylvia was a lifelong member and elder of the Presbyterian Church, as well as one of the founders of the Presbyterian Church in Prineville, OR.

She loved to knit, complete jigsaw puzzles (into her mid-90s), playing Bingo and other board games, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two children and their families; Tom (Joan) of Poulsbo, WA, and Karen Brindle (Chris) of Salem, OR; as well as five grandchildren, Genevieve, Matthew, Allison, Foxx and Tommy.
