Shirley Hope Pitt

October 27, 1935 — October 20, 2017

Shirley was born October 28th 1935 in Salem Oregon. She was the second of six children born to Maudeen and Gregory Robl.

Shirley spent her childhood years growing up in the Waldo Hills near Silverton. Shirley graduated from Stayton High School in 1954. In 1956 she married Kendall Walling they had three children Casey, Tony, and Jon. Shirley and Kendall divorced shortly after the youngest Jon was born and she started what turned out to be her most rewarding job of all raising her three boys. She did this completely by herself and learned by trial and error.
She worked at various secretarial jobs to support her family and in 1973 she found her last job working for Woodburn Park and Recreations, at the time they lived in the Cascade school district outside of Aumsville which was 45 minute commute. And because her boys were starting high school she didn’t move until they were out of high school.
After the boys had moved on she moved to Woodburn to be closer to work. Shortly after she started her life on her own she met and married the love of her life John Pitt.
After retirement in 1998 John and Shirley Bought a Motor Home and traveled near and far with trips to Philadelphia to see John’s family and a trip to Iowa to see grandchildren. They also joined Good Sam’s and went on many local outings.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Maudeen, and Gregory, Brothers Joseph and Erwin Robl, and Sister Ladonna Torczen. She is survived by her husband of 36 years John Pitt, Sister Mary Kirsch and Brother Greg Robl. Her sons Casey, Tony and Jon Walling, and stepsons David and Robert Pitt, 17 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren and many Cousins, Nephews, and Nieces.
