Rod Mosman

Roderick William Mosman (Rod) was born September 20th, 1946, in Nampa, ID to VanNess (Maffit) and Richard (Dick) Mosman. Rod passed away at home in Salem, Oregon on April 1, 2023 at the age of 76, surrounded by his wife and children. Rod had been well and active up until January, when he was hospitalized with interstitial lung disease.

Rod grew up on a farm with his sister Suzie, in Star, Idaho, living close to many of his Mosman relatives. He enjoyed hunting and fishing from an early age with his Dad and uncles, and his cousin, Lee Frost. In addition to loving these hobbies, he enjoyed everything mechanical, taking things apart and then putting them back together with his father’s help and advice. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1964 and then attended Boise Junior College (now Boise State). When his father received a teaching position at South Salem High School, he moved to Salem, OR in 1966. There his youngest sister Shauna was born. Rod attended Chemeketa Community College, earning a degree in structural engineering. Later he attended OCE in Monmouth.

Rod met his wife, Debi (Bartges) in Salem. He called her “the love of his life.” They enjoyed 53+ years of marriage together, raising their six children. Together with their children, they made a loving home, where Rod often said communicating with each other was so important, and is one of our family’s strengths.

In the first years of marriage, Rod attended Gospel Meetings with Debi to help her with the children. Then Rod began to feel like he was missing something, and was often touched by what was said in the meetings. In 1977, he made his choice to serve God. He often said this choice changed his life, directed his future, and gave him hope for eternity. Rod loved the privilege of having fellowship meetings in their home, and, together with Debi, having an open home where friends and their ministers were always welcome.

Rod worked for Boise Cascade Paper Mill in Salem for 39 years, holding various positions from the engineering department to his final position as the quality control manager.

Through the years, Rod loved to share his love for the outdoors with his children and grandchildren, which included numerous camping, hunting, and fishing trips. He also had many dear friends who shared his enthusiasm in taking any opportunity to be on the water or in the woods together. Entwined with all these experiences was the special fellowship shared with family and friends on these outings.

Rod was preceded in death by his father Richard Mosman. Rod will be greatly missed by his wife, Debi Mosman of Salem; his children Derick (Crystal) Mosman, of Salem, Marya Abraham of Rancho Murieta, CA, Rory (Cassie) Mosman of Parma, ID, Ramey (Dee Anne) Mosman of Parma, ID, Malia (Ryan) Miller of Declo, ID, and Kyra (Sean) Ziniker of Corvallis. Rod loved his 15 grandchildren; Conner (Courtney), Hunter
(Suzanne), Stuart, Sydney, Sequoia, Ember, Aislyn, Jasper, Dawson, Gage, Kamea, Kenzi, Lincoln, Westley, and Adeline. He also leaves behind his dear mother, VanNess Mosman of Salem, his sisters, Cherie (Jackson) Chan of Lake Oswego, and Shauna (Robert) Bean of Lynnwood, WA., nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

A memorial service will be held on April 15th, 2023 at 1:30pm at the Macleay Conference and Retreat Center: 2887 74th Ave SE, Salem OR 97317.
