Robert (Bob) Hay

Robert (Bob) Hay, 71, passed away from kidney failure on July 15, 2018. Bob was born to Russell Walden Hay and Gertrude Banks Hay in Antigo, WI in 1946. His family moved west at a young age. Bob attended both Alsea and Eddyville schools.

Bob joined the United States Navy in April, 1967. He was a machinist mate. He was active in the Vietnam War for three years. Bob earned the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon - Bronze Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Bob was honorably discharged on March 9, 1970.

Bob returned home to Toledo, OR after serving in Vietnam. Bob worked for 35 years at Georgia-Pacific after returning home. When Bob retired he kept busy doing asphalt work and carpentry work for individual customers. Bob was previously married and had two children and two step children.

Bob met his current wife, Julie Life, in August of 1988. Bob and Julie officially married in June 1995. Bob loved horses, working on cars and had a passion for big dogs. He was an extremely helpful man. He would drop anything that he was working on to go help a friend.

Bob is preceeded in death by his parents, his sister Judy Averill and son Robert Franklin Winters. He is survived by his wife, Julie Life of Toledo, OR, and by his daughter Mindy Janell Cornstubble of Jackson, MI. He is also survived by his two step children Rachel Preston, Oregon City, David Clark Hay, Siletz OR, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be on August 4th at Toledo Eagles from 1-4pm. A military honors ceremony and burial will take place at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR at a date to be determined.
