Richard Eugene Mcconnell

October 26, 1930 — June 25, 2017

Richard lived a prosperous 86 wonderful years.  On June 25th, 2017, Richard died peacefully in his sleep at his son, Patrick McConnell’s, home located at 2149 Woodhaven Court NW in Salem, Oregon.  Richards wife, Evelyn McConnell, was by Richard's side at his passing.

Richard was born on October 26th, 1930 in Washington D.C.  Richard was the son of the late, Edward C. McConnell and Mrs. Gretchen Eugenia McConnell.

On April 14th, 1956, Richard married his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Ann McConnell.  Maiden name of Evelyn Ann Kingman.  Evelyn survives Richard.

Richard served in the U.S Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1968 as a Petty Officer First Class.  Richard joined the Navy at the age of 17.  He was deployed to both the Korean War and Vietnam.  Richard was very proud of his military service and always wore it like a badge of honor.

Richard was outgoing and a Seventh Day Adventist.  Richard loved to explore, see new things and just take in all that life had to offer.  Richard loved to just get in the car and drive after church, didn’t care where he went, just loved to go new places.  Richard cherished any time he had with his children (4) and grandchildren (11).  Richard was fortunate enough to become a Great Grandfather twice.

Surviving Richard are his three sons, Chris McConnell of Lee’s Summit, MO.  Michael McConnell of Santa Cruz, CA.  Patrick McConnell of Salem, OR. And his one daughter, Bonnie LaMalfa of Boyce, VA.

A military memorial service will be held on July 27th 3:00pm at Willamette National Cemetery.
