Leone Faye Hoover

April 21, 1949 — June 20, 2019

Leone Faye Hoover (Maney) of Salem, Oregon passed away in her home surrounded by family in the early morning of June 20th 2019 at the age of 70. Leone is the daughter of Leroy (deceased) and Iva Ruth Maney (deceased). She was born April 21, 1949 in Spearfish, South Dakota where she spent her early childhood years. The Maney family along with several close family friends moved out west to Jeffrey City, Wyoming and eventually settling in Oregon forming lasting bonds. Leone and her brother’s Gordon and Keith Maney grew up in the small timber town of Oakridge, Oregon. Leone graduated from Oakridge High School the class of 1968.

As a young adult Leone met and married Edward Hoover, becoming the mother of six children. Though she tried to live positively, Leone was given many challenges in her lifetime that brought sorrow to her and her home. As a single parent Leone raised her six young children including a medically fragile daughter Kristi who preceded her in death. Leone faced and handled these challenges with unwavering perseverance and strength.

Leone valued education and made it a point to continue her education earning a degree in Human/Social Services from Chemeketa Community College. Returning to work, Leone became an Assistant Teacher for Head Start. She touched the lives of many children and families over the years, with many friendships lasting into adulthood. Later she retired from the State of Oregon.
Even when life was difficult for Leone, she always had room to welcome people into her home whether to give shelter for a time or to become lasting family. Leone’s compassion was centered on caring for others, as she was always described as a kind and giving person who gave of herself wanting nothing in return.

As the cornerstone of the family, Leone was loved by many and affectionately known as Grandma Bones, Grandma Dinosaur, and Grandma Bubbles, each with their own special meaning. Leone always had a “laugh now clean up later” approach to life as her home was often the site of boisterous and often times messy but fun activities leaving lasting memories.

Leone is survived by sibling’s Gordon Maney of Oakridge and Keith Maney of New York; her children Matthew, Nathan and his wife Whitney Hoover their children Cameron, Miles, and Wesley; Jodie (Kainoa) her children Kawika (oldest grandchild), Elika, Olivia, and Sofia; and Tracy Hoover her children Kobe, Kyle, and Lucy; and Savannah Hoover (daughter of David), and many special family friends. Leone will be lovingly received in heaven by her son David & her daughter Kristi Hoover.
