Kathryn Marie (Haskins) Schmidt

May 16, 1927 — October 25, 2023

Kathryn Marie (Haskins) Schmidt, 96, passed away peacefully with her kids by her side, on October 25, 2023.

Kathryn was born on May 16, 1927 to John and Myrtle Haskins in Philomath, Oregon, and spent her childhood in Philomath, Coos Bay, Everett, Washington, and Vancouver Washington, where Kathy graduated from Vancouver High School in 1946.

While in high school, Kathy worked at a day care center, and after graduating, she worked as an elevator operator at Meier and Frank, until she went to Northwest Nazarene College, in Nampa, Idaho, where she studied to be a librarian.

After her first semester of her sophomore year, Kathy returned home to help her mother after youngest sister, Carol, was born.

Kathy loved to travel. She traveled to Alaska, Mexico, and memorable trips to California, before meeting and marrying Bob Schmidt on March 15, 1958.

She worked at the Department of Revenue as a supervisor, and also worked at the Highway Department.

Kathy became a farmer’s wife, and full time mom. Their family grew with the addition of Jim in 1962, Roger in 1963, and Melissa in 1967.  She spent her days taking care of her kids, cooking, and cleaning, and driving truck for Bob, as well as working for the Woodburn Fire Department.

Her travel journeys resumed when the kids were older. She was able to travel to Greece, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Norway, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, Canada and many US States. She loved to paint, knit, and trace genealogy of both the Haskins and Schmidt’s.

Bob and Kathy were very proud of their family and led a life dedicated to the Lord.

Bob went to be with the Lord on May 27, 2015, after 57 years of marriage.

Kathy is predeceased by her parents, John and Myrtle Haskins, sister, Ann Haskins, and husband, Bob Schmidt.  She is survived by her sisters, Joan Riemer (Elmer) of Sweet Home, Oregon and Carol Potter (Areon) of Salem, Oregon. Son, James Schmidt (Carol), and their four children: Joe (Monica) Schmidt, Nathan (Jenny) Schmidt, Olivia Schmidt, and Sam (Taylor) Schmidt; son Roger Schmidt; daughter Melissa Fadenrecht (Doug), and their kids, Kayla (Sal) Sanchez, Stephanie Fadenrecht, and great-grandson, Luca Sanchez. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission, Salem, Oregon.
