Katherine "Kathi" Bray-Douglas

Elementary school teacher Katherine "Kathi" Bray-Douglas' passion for life didn't end with her death. Truly full of joy, her laugh was contagious. Able to find the light even in the darkest of times, she shared this lesson generously. Kathi passed away Dec. 31, 2022, at 66, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones, who sang and lifted her spirit in song.

Born in the spring to Rose Ann "Rosie" and James Donald "Don" Bray, Kathi's personality perfectly matched the familiar dancing golden daffodils of the season: Sunny and warm.
Kathi cared deeply for others and was a steadfast defender of those who needed it most. Her passion for others led her to education, and she completed her Bachelor's in Elementary Education at Western Oregon University. What followed were 43 years of teaching at Victor Point School in Silverton, Ore.,—a true calling that she adored. Sharing her passion for growth and learning with countless others over the years, she retired in 2022 only after her doctor's strong urging. Still, Kathi continued to help with the school play set to take place in the spring of 2023.

Her children, music, food, travel, reading, writing, and laughter were just a few of the many things Kathi loved. She could recall the lyrics to a song she hadn't heard for 30 years and quickly teach you the tune. She loved cooking for others and sharing her recipes. She enjoyed traveling with her children. She was excited to explore the world around her in retirement with her husband. She was looking forward to being a grandmother for the first time and couldn't wait to welcome a beautiful new soul into this world.

Kathi was preceded in death by her parents, Rosie and Don; as well as her sister, Ann Jones. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Douglas; her children, Molly Bray-Yurovchak, Amelia Bray-Meehan, Emma Douglas; and her future grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Chis Bray, Jamie Halsell, Lisa Utz, and Jim Bray.

In lieu of flowers, Kathi wanted donations made to any of the following charities: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network ( https://pancan.org ), Alzheimer's Association ( https://www.alz.org ), Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington ( https://www.ovariancancerosw.org ), Save the Children ( https://www.savethechildren.org ).
