Jerry Dean Hall

January 21, 1934 — December 26, 2019

Jerry Dean Hall went forward to life eternal on December 26, 2019 at his home in Silverton, Oregon. Jerry was born on January 21, 1934 in a farmhouse in Dialville, Texas to Hubert and Bernardine Hall. He had two sets of loving grandparents and lots of caring aunts and uncles. He lived and grew to manhood in Palestine, Texas where he excelled in all sports, especially football. He went on to play football for Rice University in Houston. Upon graduation Jerry turned down a contract with the Detroit Lions to enter the Navy with the express desire to fly jet aircraft. His Navy career of being a carrier pilot lasted nine years and resulted in lifelong friendships.

In 1966 Jerry left the Navy and was hired by Pan American World Airways, flying out of San Francisco. In 1967 he married Judy Jarrett Turner and her three sons, Mark, Clay and Rick. They made their home in Concord, CA where their son, Jason was born in 1969. In 1972 they moved to Medford, OR. Where they stayed until 2007 when Jerry and Judy moved to Silverton, OR to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing the Klamath, Rogue and Smith Rivers. He was an avid hunter of deer, antelope and elk and chukar. He and his sons enjoyed backpacking in the Marble Mountains of California and the Wallowa’s in Oregon. In later years, Jerry enjoyed camping and riding dirt bikes with his friends Ron Toombs and Wayne Stone. For several years, he and his high school teammates held a reunion on Lake Frankston in Texas to relive past glories and catch fish. Since moving to Silverton, he and Jason have enjoyed duck hunting at James Rice’s Waterfowl Guide Service. He was a member of the Canby Rod and Gun Club.

Jerry was an excellent wood worker and a master at intricate design. The family has some beautiful mementos as a result. Jerry’s interest in words, their meaning and pronunciation aided in his ability to complete the crossword puzzle each day. He maintained his wonderful sense of humor to the very end of his life.

As he matured, Jerry’s faith and his relationship with his Lord deepened and strengthened. He attended the Nazarene Church in Medford and Salem for over 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Rachel Turner. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy, his sons, Mark (Oregon City, OR) Clayton (Kara, Casper, WY), Rick (Trina, Keizer, OR) Jason, (Tricia, Oregon City, OR), fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. His sister, Jackie Newman resides in Palestine, Texas.

Arrangements have been handled by Johnson Funeral Home of Salem. At Jerry’s request there will be no funeral service.
