Franklin O. Berg Jr. born August 27, 1954 to Franklin & Inez Berg in Harvey, North Dakota, passed away at his home in Salem, OR on 1/3/19 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Carol Berg, son in law Nic Morales, son Franklin Berg III (Sarah), daughter Jessica Smalley (Izzy), son Brandon Smalley (Amy), daughter Amanda Herrera (Rigo) son Jeremy Smalley, 15 grandchildren with the 16th due in July, brothers Mark Berg (Darlene), Daniel Berg (Vickie) and David Berg (Rhonda), sisters Corlotta Berg and Susie Troth and his beloved dog Shadow. Frank served in the Army at the age of 18. Shortly after leaving the Army he began working in the construction field, starting as a Carpenter Apprentice working his way up to Project Superintendent. He built bridges all over Oregon, Washington, California, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii and he was always proud to point out his work.
He loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing or just camping with family. He was a man of many talents whether it be preparing a special food tray for the holidays to building the grandchildren cradles, rocking unicorns and motorcycles. His 15 grandchildren were his pride and joy, they all loved and adored him.
He was the most patient person, he taught us all so much and we have been fortunate to know his love. He had the biggest heart – always helping anyone who needed it, his home was open to anyone.
With Frank’s passing, the world lost a great husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother and Brother in Law. He left us all too soon, his positive attitude towards life and witty banter will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
