Frank Wesley Spragg made his debut in Modesto, California, on June 13th, 1943. He spent most of his childhood in beautiful Montana.
Frank's early life in education took him through Belgrade elementary, middle, and high school. For his senior year, he joined the ranks of Bozeman High School, where, naturally, the cool kids gathered. He starred in plays, played basketball and most notably joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He later pursued his academic ambitions at Brigham Young University, earning a degree in History, and served an honorable mission in England.
Frank wore many professional hats with the flair of a seasoned magician. From an entrepreneur and business owner of Spragg Piano Service for 43 years to a Forest Ranger, Commercial Real Estate Agent, Insurance Salesman, and, most proudly, an author. Frank's career was a tapestry of diverse achievements. Notably, his eloquence earned him multiple Toastmasters International “Speech Contest Winner” trophies.
Frank was a reverse renaissance man.
His military service included stints in the Army and Air National Guard, adding another layer to his multifaceted life.
A man of boundless interests, Frank delighted in hiking, exploring, and anything related to maps and people. His memory for dates, places, and names was legendary, matched only by his thirst for knowledge and love for writing. Mountain climbing, gardening, and conversing were among his cherished pastimes, along with being an avid reader.
Frank's community spirit shone through his involvement with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Toastmasters, and the Mountain Climbing Club. He even penned a book “Two Moments of Glory”, about Montana High School Basketball, contributing a slice of local history.
Among the milestones in his life, marrying the love of his life, Judi Roberts, adopting her four children – Terryn, Jana, Jeffrey, and Tyler – and hiking to the top of Mount Saint Helens shortly before it erupted stand out. His quirky tradition of enjoying root beer with chocolate sauce and taking grandkids on yearly hiking trips will be fondly remembered.
Frank leaves behind a legacy of love and adventure, survived by his beloved Judi, his older sister Sheila and younger sister Susie, his children Terryn, Jana, Jeffrey and Tyler, grandchildren Jeremy, Ryan, Brianna, Kylie, Gavin, Teagan, Tyler, Shaina, Brandon, Courtney, Evan, Spencer, Hayden, Camden and baby London, and 13 great grandchildren (and counting). He joins those who predeceased him with a storybook ending to a life well-lived.
In the words of Frank himself, “If you’re going to do something, do it right.” We can confidently say he did just that.
