Fannie Maude Chisholm

January 4, 1923 — April 5, 2025

Salem

On April 5, 2025, Fannie Maude Chisholm moved peacefully home to Heaven to her new life. She was surrounded by family and friends, resting in the arms of daughter Phyllis, and with daughter Trudy and Rick Thomas, a true friend and helper. Fannie lived an amazing life - and was full of spunk and life all the way to the end. She raised an amazing family and legacy of six children and sixteen grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Phillip Harding Chambers (b.8/2/1922 – d. 1/20/1990), and husband Daniel Thatcher (married in her 60’s) brothers Ross Martin Chisholm (b. 6/16/1920 – d. 7/20/2002), Daniel Webster Chisholm (b. 1/18/1925 – d. 12/8/2006), and Chester Lee Chisholm (b. 11/4/1926 – d. 3/31/2009) and by parents, Calvin Alonzo Chisholm (b. 2/17/1895 – d. 8/6/1956) and Jessie Marie Griffith (b. 2/10/1901 – d. 8/1/1979).

She is survived in legacy by her children, Phillip Alonzo Chambers (1942), Phyllis Marie Chambers (1942), Clarence Lester Chambers (1946), Trudy Ann Chambers (1949), Diane Hass (1952), and Gene Morley (1954) and their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Fannie Maude Chisholm "Faye" was born on January 4, 1923 in Blythe, California. And at 102 years old, Fannie had some great stories to share. She was born in the Roaring 20’s and lived through the Great Depression, picked cotton and lived in tents traveling around California and Arizona as her father worked as an FDR New Deal itinerant worker. She raised her babies as part of the Greatest Generation as all three of her brothers went to war in WWII and one ended up in the most horrific camps in the Pacific as a prisoner of war of Japan. She was tough as nails and could out box all three of her brothers. She was one of the strongest women in character and stature, truly the definition of grit. She was also slim and gorgeous all while hunting and taking care of those she loved. She was a descendant of the Texas Chisholm frontier “Come and Take It” settlers and pioneers and she carried that in her blood and lived it out.

Fannie married Phillip Harding Chambers, son of Phillip Hooper Chambers and Lorna Elizabeth Klaholtz, on September 21, 1941 in Reno, Nevada. Phillip was born on August 2, 1922 in Williams, California. He died on January 20, 1990 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is buried in Twenty Nine Palms, California.

Fannie’s first child, Phillip, was born a year after they were wed and daughter Phyllis soon after. She was a tough and caring mother raising the three boys and three girls – with a whole lotta tough and even more laughter. Into her late years, Fannie could be caught smoking a cigar with one of her sons and laughing it up. Fannie was hard-charging and traveled to be with family, stay with her children, even traveling to Texas for Chisholm family reunions as the leader of the whole clan – having lived a long and passionate life. Fannie was no doubt welcomed to the arms of Jesus with the words “Well done good and faithful servant” and she probably had a quick witted quip to come back with.

The family would love to hear stories and sentiments. Fannie was a treasure and will be missed by many.
