Dollie Fern Jones Shippy

Dollie Fern Jones was born October 7, 1923 in Embree, Wright County, Missouri, weighing 4 ½ lbs.

She was married to Marvin M. Shippey Sr. for 64 years. Fern is survived by their six children: daughter Jane Umphress of Mesa, Arizona, sons Gary (and Janelle), of Stites, Idaho, Marvin Jr. (and Val), Allan, Steven (and Renee), and Tim, all of Salem, OR. She had 14 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great grandchildren.

At the age of 98 ½ years of age, Fern out-lived all of her siblings; one brother and six sisters. Also, is known to have out-lived anyone in her family history.

Fern became a devoted Christian in her early twenties and raised her children in the church. She was always serving in the church in many capacities.

She was outgoing, wanting to be helpful, giving, had a great laugh, and loved children.

Fern worked in the fields with her children picking strawberries and pole beans. She went to work at the cannery, then at Salem Hospital as a Supervisor in Housekeeping for 15 years, despite only having a 5 th grade education, she excelled in wisdom and work. After retirement, she and her husband, Marvin, became snowbirds between Salem, OR and Yuma, Arizona.

A Memorial Service will be held at Northgate Wesleyan Church at 2405 Carlton Way NE, Salem, OR 97301 on May 21, 2022, at 2:00 pm.

The service will be held by Pastor Dane Gjesdal.
