Day (Dorothy) Young Macdonald

October 17, 1945 — February 13, 2024

Day (Dorothy) Young MacDonald, born Dorothy Ann Young on October 17, 1945, in Charlottesville, VA, passed away on February 13, 2024 in Salem, OR. She was the beloved daughter of William and Dorothy Young. Day was preceded in death by her parents and brother William (Skipper/Bill) F Young III. Day’s vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her.

She was a graduate of Riverheads High School in Staunton, VA, in the class of 1964. Day furthered her education at Radford College in VA, earning her degree in 1968. She pursued a career as a biology teacher and later as a registered health information technician, making a positive impact on the lives of many throughout her professional life.

Outside of her professional life, Day had a profound appreciation for the simple joys in life. She was an avid reader and Day’s green thumb brought life and beauty to her surroundings. She also cherished the freedom to explore the country by traveling with her husband, David, in her beloved RV, Alma, creating memories in every place she visited.

Day’s kind heart and unwavering love were evident in her role as a wife and mother. She shared her life with her devoted husband, David MacDonald, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Day’s daughter, Ann McBride, was the light of her life. Their bond was unbreakable and Ann’s accomplishments brought immense pride and joy to her mother’s heart.

One of Day's most remarkable qualities was her ability to lend a compassionate ear to those around her. She was a good listener, always ready to offer comfort, guidance, and support to those in need. Day's thoughtfulness and empathy touched the lives of everyone she encountered, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

In honor of Day’s memory and in lieu of remembrances, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. Day understood the importance of fighting against this devastating disease and believed in the power of research and support to make a difference in the lives of those affected.

Day will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Let us remember her for the love and light she brought into our lives.  May she rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of kindness and compassion will forever be cherished.
