Daniel "Danny" Marion Alder

March 26, 1975 — August 23, 2024

Ridgefield, WA

Our beloved Danny passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, leaving a legacy of love, service and kindness. Daniel Marion Alder was born March 26, 1975, in Vancouver, Washington, with a beautiful smile and a determined soul. He was 49 years old.

When Danny was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the white blood cells. For about 6 years Danny went through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Every time the treatments stopped Danny relapsed. The doctors recommended a bone marrow transplant. At that time bone marrow transplants were only done in New York City and Seattle. The doctors only gave him a 20-30% chance of success. Danny and his mom lived in Seattle for 5 months during the process. His older brother, Brian, who was 11 years old at the time, was a perfect match and Danny was able to have a successful transplant.

Danny loved to fish. For many years the family, which included his uncle and cousins, went to Yellowstone to fish. Many of the trips involved family competitions and Danny won many of those.

Danny was known for his hard-working ethic, his desire to choose the right, his kindness to others and always wanting to be of help.

Danny overcame all the challenges life gave him with an infectious smile and a contagious giggle. He radiated light to others.

When he was 16, he earned the Eagle Scout Award. He enjoyed being in Scouting.

Danny was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved Jesus and it reflected in how he lived his life.

Danny loved making personalized greeting cards and sent them to friends and relatives for almost every holiday and occasion. He also made birthday cards for the children at church.

Danny loved games, especially UNO. He would laugh when he’d lay down a Draw 4 card and there would be a big smile on his face when he changed the color to support his winning hand.

Danny was also a big fan of the Blazers and loved dog movies. He celebrated every holiday to the nth degree and loved to decorate.

He graduated from Ridgefield High School in June,1995 and began working at Albertsons in July as a courtesy clerk, bagging, doing carry-outs and collecting carts.

Because of the effects of the radiation, chemotherapy and the bone marrow transplant at such an early age, he had many health challenges. After turning 40 he had male breast cancer, thyroid cancer and a mini stroke, all of which the doctors say came from the effects of the radiation and chemotherapy.

Danny retired from Albertsons after 28 years in August 2023. We are so grateful to Albertsons for allowing him to be a productive part of the community. He loved his job and was a hard worker.

In March 2024 he experienced a traumatic brain injury from a fall and spent time in the hospital and in a rehabilitation unit. He then went to live at an adult care home until his death.

He is survived by his parents, Francis and Darlene Alder, brothers Brian (Jolene), Andrew, and sister, Janell Nugent (Mark), his Grandma Belnap, aunts, uncles and cousins.
