Dallas Meyer Belden, 77, passed away peacefully in Salem, Oregon on September 19, 2024.
A beloved father, grandfather, brother, husband, friend, servant, giver, and coffee lover, he was known most for his work ethic, willingness to help others, and fascinating stories. He knew no stranger. Dallas was born in Cove, Oregon on December 29, 1946, to Quentin S. Belden and Joan (Lewis) Belden. He lived in Nevada, Idaho, and Eastern Oregon throughout his childhood. Dallas had three siblings: Stella (Kligel) Belden, Sally Allen, and David Belden; was father to Scott and Sasha Belden; grandfather to Peyton Zeigler; and friend to all. Dallas graduated from Griswold High School in Helix, Oregon.
Soon after, he visited the Pendleton Armory to sign up for classes at Blue Mountain Community College, but joined the Army National Guard instead, because the line was shorter.
Dallas often worked behind the scenes and had a diverse career progression. In high school he bought his first pick-up truck by cleaning pig pens and doing odd jobs on the Reeder’s ranch. He drove a ski bus, worked for Coca Cola, was a real estate agent, and worked at two paper mills, including James River in Halsey, where he worked with his father. He flexed as a baby deliverer for when his daughter was born on the drive to the hospital.
Dallas had an entrepreneurial spirit and an avid reader on the latest innovations. He was interested in alternative building materials and mechanics. At the same time, he used his skills to keep local churches and schools running well, including Santiam Christian Schools and First Assembly of God in Albany. After Dallas retired from Lowes in Colorado, he spent time in Las Vegas, Walla Walla, and near his daughter in Salem, Oregon. He brought a dry sense of humor to every situation, often adding special details in his commentaries while bringing the muscle. He will be remembered for being strong, tender and jolly. His purpose was to bring people together, anticipate needs, do more than was ever asked and always leave everything better than he found it. Anyone who knew Dallas was lucky, especially if he blessed you with “The Israel Box” via Lev Haolam. He was passionate about supporting this organization: Lev Haolam Subscription Box
