Dale Becker was a kind soul who had a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was born on February 3, 1939, in Los Angeles, California to Wiebke Torjusen and Alfred Becker, and he spent most of his adult life in Ventura, California. Dale's journey of service began when he joined the Marines as a young man, dedicating four years of his life to defending his country. After his four years, he added two more years in the reserve program. It was during these years that he developed the values of discipline, commitment, and honor that would shape the rest of his life. Dale was a devoted firefighter who dedicated his life to keeping his community safe.
With great sadness, we announce Dale's passing on August 31, 2023, at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dale was a wonderful stepfather who always put the needs of others first. He was a great listener and always there to support and guide his loved ones. Dale was passionate about debate and used it to unite people and foster understanding. He had a quick wit and a sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him.
In his free time, Dale was an avid coin collector and enjoyed the history and beauty of coins. He was also known for his delicious homemade clam chowder, which he generously shared with family and friends. Dale, took great joy in observing and caring for hummingbirds, providing them with food and a haven in his garden. His love for hummingbirds reflected his appreciation for the natural world.
Dale is survived by his loving wife, Barbra Becker, stepchildren Kirk, Kamela, Kim, and Kathy Hodgson, and grandchildren. He also leaves behind his daughter Michelle, grandchildren Stephanie and Emily Sust, sister Beverly Dobbs, and brother Danny Torjusen.
Services to celebrate Dale's life will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on Thursday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. Dale will always be remembered for his compassion and dedication to serving others. Rest in peace, dear Dale. You will continue to shine as a beacon of goodness in our lives.
