Charles (Buddy) S. Oakes

Charles (Buddy) S. Oakes, 63, of Keizer, Oregon passed away June 9, 2024.  He was born January 11, 1961 in Ogden, Utah.  He attended Clearfield High School in Clearfield, UT and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March, 1980 where he later received his G.E.D.  He served on the USS Guam (LPH-9).  His six-year tour of duty included deployment to Beirut, Lebanon as part of the peacekeeping force during the 1982 Lebanese civil war and the October, 1983 U.S. invasion of Grenada.  He received an honorable discharge in March, 1986. He then went to work for Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Ogden, UT in positions of manufacturing and security.  He moved to Oregon and worked for Norpac Foods until its closing in 2020.  At the time of his death he was employed by Integrity Traffic in Oregon.  Buddy’s quirky sense of humor brought much laughter and smiles to everyone who knew him.  He was a loyal friend and would help anyone going through hard times.  A kind and gentle soul, whom loved nature and being outdoors. He enjoyed traveling by train, since his first trips riding between Ogden, UT and Grand Junction, CO as a young boy with his family. His passions included collecting and listening to music, seeing concerts and making jewelry from treasures of the earth. He is predeceased by his mother Shirley Shelton, sister, Laurie L. (Shelton) Walker and son, David Oakes.  He is survived by his sister Carol (Kevin) Squires of Florida, brother, Larry (Gary) McNeeley of Utah, grandson Kyler Finch of Oregon.  Uncle Buddy had a special bond with his niece Charity (Bueche) Hendricks and loved all his nieces, nephews and extended families, they loved him.  He will be dearly missed.
