Carolyn Grace Hamstreet Shores

Salem native Carolyn Hamstreet Shores (1/11/43), died from surgical complications on May 22, 2023. Carolyn graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Salem (’61) and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing in Eugene (’64), after which she immediately joined the U.S. Navy.

While a service-related injury kept her from serving as long as she would have liked, she loved her country and enjoyed working with several veteran organizations over the years. She played and coached a variety of sports, played many musical instruments, and no doubt immediately joined the heavenly choir. She also loved all things nature, animals, and being out on the water with her fishing pole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis H. and Margery S. Hamstreet, and is survived by her brother John of Grande Ronde, her sister Susan Couch of Redmond, 2 children, and 3 grandchildren. A lifelong practicing Catholic, Carolyn will be honored with a funeral mass at Queen of Peace Church in Salem on May 31 at 11am.
