Alan Ray Fish

March 8, 1975 — December 27, 2023

Alan Ray Fish is the son of Georgia Smith and the late Don Ray Fish.  Alan was born in Phoenix Arizona, on March 8, 1975. He is the 5th of 8 children in a family of three sisters and five brothers.

Alan’s family moved to Salem, Oregon in 1977 where he attended Baker and McKinley Elementary Schools, Leslie Middle School, and South Salem High School. He played AAU basketball and his team won 5 Oregon State AAU championships. He later played for South Salem High School and set a record for the highest number of points in a game (48 points) which still stands today. After graduating Alan attended and played basketball for Chemeketa Community College and Willamette University.

Alan served a mission to Guatemala for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ and became fluent in Spanish.  After his mission, he taught English in Taiwan and learned Mandarin Chinese.  He had a gift for languages and loved to speak with others in their native language.

Immediately after the attack of 9/11, Alan enlisted in the US Army where he served 4 years in South Korea. While in Asia he met and married Maia Dihan.  They had two sons, Reuben and Dylan.

Alan was intelligent and kind.  A fun-loving gentleman who loved people, made friends easily and always wanted to serve others. He has been described as “larger than life”! Alan died in Salem, Oregon on December 27, 2023.

Alan is survived by his sons, Reuben Fish and Dylan Fish, mother Georgia Fish Henrichsen, siblings Natalie Magnusson, Krista (Ron) Morgan, John (Cindy) Fish, David (Angela) Fish, Dionne Fish, Steven Fish, Scott (Kirby) Fish, and 36 nieces and nephews. Alan was preceded in death by his father Don Ray Fish in 2001.
