Obituary

Susan Jane Winterstein was born March 7, 1960 in Salem, Oregon to Wilfred and Margaret Opager. She was 1 of five siblings. She passed away unexpectedly on April 22nd, 2021. 

Susan graduated with an Associate’s Degree from Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho.

She lived in Salem for most of her life, married and had 3 children.  John Short (who proceeded her in death), Janet Denos of Albany, OR & Jeffrey Short of Salem, OR. Her grandchildren are Madison, Brinleigh, Hudson, Gage & Rhett Denos.

She worked for the State of Oregon as a Caregiver for many years. Shortly after retiring she married Curt Winterstein. They recently settled in Independence, Oregon. 

Susan was so talented. She did amazing cross-stitching pictures and made beautiful crocheted blankets for those close to her. She loved to read and spent a lot of time writing in her journals, composing her own poetry, and studying the scriptures. She also enjoyed swimming, her cats and trips to the beach. Family was very important to her. Most of her time was spent with her husband Curt, her parents in Salem or visiting her daughter and grandchildren. 

Susan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Susan is survived by her husband Curtis Winterstein. Her children Janet (David) Denos and Jeffrey Short. Her grandchildren; Madison, Brinleigh, Hudson, Gage and Rhett Denos. Her parents Wilfred and Margaret Opager, Siblings; Steven Opager, Becky (Ben) Lee, Mary (Rob) Caulkin, and David (Diedre) Opager. 

She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

    You were a generous and loving sister, a poet and artist of many gifts and talents. You loved and enjoyed your children, grandchildren and family and we loved you.
    We will miss you and cherish your memory.
