Roger was the son of Benny & Precious Bendel. He was born in Ventura, CA and moved to Taft, CA in 1962, before moving to Oregon in 1976. He married Lisa Listella in 1980 in Salem, Oregon.
He worked for the State of Oregon for 40 years: 23 years at Fairview Training Center and 17 years in Licensing. His co-workers described him as patient, kind, and always willing to lend a hand.
He was baptized as a child in Taft, CA at First Baptist Church. In 1988, he became a member of Faith Baptist Church in Salem, Oregon. He served in Children’s Ministries, as a Deacon and an Usher. He was an active member of a Bible study, small group and loved fellowshipping with his Church family. Described as an out-going Christian who loved to share the Gospel.
Roger loved the outdoors! He spent a lot of time outside, from spring until fall, doing little projects around the house and tending to his garden. Roger, Lisa, and their children loved camping at the Oregon coast, especially at Sunset Bay. He especially loved spending time with his family.
The last few years, Roger and Lisa were able to travel to Hawaii, take a cruise to the Catalina Islands and travel into Mexico, and also took a 22-day Panama Cruise. They enjoyed trips to different areas of Canada, including Victoria BC. They also loved visiting various family who live out of state.
Roger is survived by his wife, Lisa; their children: Jonathan & Rebekah Bendel of Jefferson, OR and Rebecca & Matthew Bowen of Salem, OR; three grandchildren: Autumn and Lily Bendel & Logan Bowen; brothers, Robert & Beth Bendel and Fred & Roberta Bendel; and sisters, Tara & David Stewart, and Judy Stellingwerf.
Roger was proceeded in death by his parents, Benny and Precious Bendel; son, Ryan Bendel; brother, Steven Bendel, and sister, Patty Givens.
The celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 6th, 2021 at 11am, at Faith Baptist Church; 3345 Cordon Rd NE, Salem, OR. 97305.
