Obituary

Kent William Fretwell lost his short battle with cancer on October 27th at 2:45am at his home with his family by his side. He was 58 years old.

We could tell you where he was born and his favorite hobbies but there is something much more important about kent. What he has taught us.

What we have learned from our father is that life is short and often brutal, and the best way to battle that is with a good laugh and cheers. He has made our world strong and us strong (and if you knew him, strong minded), and that life is what it is; wild and short. We have lost the battle but won so many fights. We promise you those who knew you will never stop talking about you, everyone we know will forever know you and everyone we meet in our life will meet you.

It's all good dad.

He is survived by his daughters Melissa and Kelsey, his loving wife Amy and her two sons Dalton and Jacob, grandson Mason and one of his longest friends who never left his side, Beckie.

No funeral will be held. We will celebrate his life November 17th at 4pm at Los Arcos Mexican grill. All are welcome.

Messages of Sympathy

  1. Paul Chambeerlain, Clark Public Utilities Fleet Services says:

Kent was a trailblazer within the fleet industry. He was instrumental in keeping the NAFA group together and was always willing to participate for the good of the industry. We will miss you.

  2. DPSST says:

We were all very sad to receive the news of Kent's passing. We have had the privilege of working with Kent for decades as the State Fleet Manager. Kent took the time to get to know people by name and also to understand what they did. He did this so he could provide excellent customer service of which he was a master. He also did this because he cared. We went through the downs of life with Kent such as when his boat couldn't be put in the water all summer at Detroit Lake because of the drought or the time the flooding of Mill Creek took out a number of state vehicles in the yard. We were also there for the good times - a friendly person, who loved life, loved his job, loved having folks tell him that his section was the best thing DAS did for state agencies, the list goes on and on. We are all better because of knowing Kent, and the State of Oregon was better because of what Kent and his talented team at DAS Fleet did to help state agencies accomplish their mission.

There is a saying leave your mark not your memory. You did well Kent, you left your mark on all of us in a positive way!

We extend our deepest sympathy to Kent's family and friends and will keep Kent and you all in our thoughts and prayers.

    Rest in peace our friend.

  4. Kelly Renee Etgen-Brown says:

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Kent in person and had only spoken with him over the phone a few times but I can tell you without a doubt he made a difference in my sister Amy's life. She has know nothing but joy and happiness for the first time in her adult life since being with this man. I am grateful that he not only loved her but was a friend to her as well. It is my loss that I did not have the opportunity to know him well.

I will miss you for the rest of my life brother. You and I had a wonderful childhood together. Our parents were the sort everyone wishes for, loving and generous with their time. I will miss all the stories of your adventures on the boat, and with your many, many friends, and your family. I will miss you always and think of you always my one and only brother.
