Obituary

John Alvin Schiewek, 81, is in Heaven! No doubt about it!! On August 12, 2023, he passed from this life to a better life to be with Jesus forever.

John enjoyed living in Salem, OR during the summers and Sun City West AZ for the winters with his wife of 61 years, joyfully serving Jesus together.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1941 to Edward Paul and Martha Louise Schiewek in Independence OR. After graduating from Stayton High in 1959, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Music from Willamette University and taught music for years 10 years prior to becoming a full-time minister, pastoring churches in Alsea OR, Jasper OR and Springfield OR. He later graduated from Western Seminary in Portland OR with a masters in Bible Theology.

In 1960, John met Mildred Glaser in Salem OR while attending Central Assembly of God Church and were married Dec 16, 1961.

John is survived by his wife Mildred (Glaser) Schiewek, Sun City West AZ and three children: Cheryl (Ted) Werth, Salem OR; Loren (Lori) Schiewek, Lacey WA; and Kerry Schiewek, Eugene OR; five grandchildren: Lisa Werth, Danielle (Ryan) Martin, Timothy Werth, Nathan (Breanne) Schiewek and Zackary Schiewek. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren as well as his brother David Schiewek and preceded in death by his sister, Pauline (Schiewek) Brown and baby brother, Harold Schiewek.

John’s love for people and desire to serve flowed out of his love for the Bible and Jesus Christ who saved him from his sins, making him a truly free and fearless man. John would desire this for you. It starts with these truths from the Bible;

John 3:16-18.

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

His work continues through the volumes of devotionals left for all of us. Go to Schiewek.org to see and follow his work while he was with us.
