Obituary

Franklin O. Berg Jr. born August 27, 1954 to Franklin & Inez Berg in Harvey, North Dakota, passed away at his home in Salem, OR on 1/3/19 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Carol Berg, son in law Nic Morales, son Franklin Berg III (Sarah), daughter Jessica Smalley (Izzy), son Brandon Smalley (Amy), daughter Amanda Herrera (Rigo) son Jeremy Smalley, 15 grandchildren with the 16th due in July, brothers Mark Berg (Darlene), Daniel Berg (Vickie) and David Berg (Rhonda), sisters Corlotta Berg and Susie Troth and his beloved dog Shadow. He is preceded in death by his daughter Angel Morales, his Mom and Dad.

Frank served in the Army at the age of 18. Shortly after leaving the Army he began working in the construction field, starting as a Carpenter Apprentice working his way up to Project Superintendent. He built bridges all over Oregon, Washington, California, Utah, Alaska, Hawaii and he was always proud to point out his work.

He loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing or just camping with family. He was a man of many talents whether it be preparing a special food tray for the holidays to building the grandchildren cradles, rocking unicorns and motorcycles. His 15 grandchildren were his pride and joy, they all loved and adored him.

He was the most patient person, he taught us all so much and we have been fortunate to know his love. He had the biggest heart – always helping anyone who needed it, his home was open to anyone.

With Frank’s passing, the world lost a great husband, Dad, Grandpa, Brother and Brother in Law. He left us all too soon, his positive attitude towards life and witty banter will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

As young children, Frank and my younger sister Pam were buddies during his stay with our family, playing jokes on our neighbor kids. (they were 2 of a kind) Our later visits as adults were always fun and memorable. I appreciated his talents when he was on a job in Sacramento and helped me with a big project on my home. I will remember Frank with much love and have a toast to him.

Frank was the brother that always had a big grin when he seen you and a big hug. He often said he was the black sheep in the family but he was anything not that. He had a big heart shared everything with anyone who needed it. He was a good listener and never took sides. I smile even when you say his name. He excepted Christ before he passed so I'm so happy to say we'll meet again brother. Love Darlene

I did not know Frank after he grew up, but he looks like his Dad and sounds very much like he followed in his Dad's footsteps. He had much to be proud of in his accomplishments and you were all blessed to be in his life. May God be with all of you and give you comfort in knowing that Frank is at peace and no longer battling cancer. I am Frank's cousin.

I never met Franklin but in reading his story I wish I had. His life was one of giving and receiving love and it ended too soon. May all his family and friends be comforted by God’s promise of a resurrection to a restored paradise earth. John 5:28,29 Psalms 37:10,11.
