Obituary

Evelyn was welcomed to this world on January 17, 1939 by her father, Noel Edward Kingman, and mother, Elender Marie Kingman (Alvey). Evelyn went to sleep on December 6, 2018 at Salem Hospital in Salem, Oregon. She blessed her family, friends and community for nearly 80 years. She cherished 61 years married to her only truelove, Richard Eugene McConnell. They were married on April 14, 1956. Richard went to sleep on June 25, 2017.

Evelyn was first and foremost a loving and steadfast mother. Her maternal strength was a foundation that supported 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Her loving family was her most precious accomplishment.

Evelyn had various jobs during her life but was most notably a talented baker and cake decorator. She enjoyed volunteering and serving others through her church. She was a devout Christian and faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church for nearly four decades. In her leisure time, she enjoyed road trips with Richard, visiting family, playing softball and bowling.

Surviving Evelyn are her four children: Chris McConnell of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Michael McConnell of Santa Cruz, California; Bonnie LaMalfa of Boyce, Virginia; and Patrick McConnell of Salem, Oregon.

A memorial service will be held at the Woodburn SDA church on January 20 at 9:30 am. All are welcome. Her urn will be placed by Richard’s urn at Willamette National Cemetery. They will have a marker at the cemetery displaying both their names and an inscription, “Together forever.”

  1. Joyce says:

John 5:28, 29 says not to be amazed that there will be a resurrection. What a beautiful promise when all families will be reunited and death will be no more.

Evelyn was a dear friend and will truly be missed. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help others. I look forward to the day Jesus returns and I can catch up with my friend.

So sad to hear of Evelyn's passing. She and Richard were sweet, sweet friends. One of the couples who helped us start our feeding program and were very involved in other ministries at Zephyrhills SDA Church. Loved both of them dearly. Sleep well, our sweet friends! He's coming soon for us and we'll see you there!
