At the age of 98 ½ years of age, Fern out-lived all of her siblings; one brother and six sisters. Also, is known to have out-lived anyone in her family history.

Fern became a devoted Christian in her early twenties and raised her children in the church. She was always serving in the church in many capacities.

Fern worked in the fields with her children picking strawberries and pole beans. She went to work at the cannery, then at Salem Hospital as a Supervisor in Housekeeping for 15 years, despite only having a 5th grade education, she excelled in wisdom and work. After retirement, she and her husband, Marvin, became snowbirds between Salem, OR and Yuma, Arizona.
