Obituary

Arlan Bert Blodgett, born in Portland, Oregon was the first born son to Bert A Blodgett & Naomi M (Hamilton) Blodgett. He attended elementary schools in Portland and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School. After attending Walla Walla College one year, Arlan joined the army; then he returned to attend Portland State College after discharge.

In 1954 Arlan met Dorothy Jean Gerling, and they were married in December 1955. Shortly after, they bought a VW "Bug", a new sensation of automobile. They took many day trips, met other "Bug" owners and enjoyed the fun of car rallies, some of which he organized.

Arlan and Dorothy loved to travel, taking several cruises and several trips to Europe. In 1973, all five family members spent one month touring 8 countries in Europe in a VW camper. He was a gifted painter and sculptor. He also loved to study archaeology and spent several weeks at a "dig" in Israel on two separate occasions. Genealogy was truly a passion and he spent many decades researching and recording family roots. Hiking, tent trailer camping and Blodgett family reunion picnics (yearly) were loved by all the family.

Arlan is predeceased by his brother Ralph Hamilton Blodgett. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughters Sandra (Sandy) Blodgett, Ramona (Mona) Beaton and Toni Blodgett-Schultz (Art); granddaughters Kendra McDonald and Hanna Hayden (Chris); great grandsons Gage Payne and Azon Larson; sister-in-law Judith Blodgett and nieces Deborah Conken (Randy) and Tammy Huff.

A military service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at 12:30 pm on Monday, August 05, 2019.
