Obituary

Sheila Ann Carr, of Gleneden Beach, Oregon, passed away on March 23, of congestive heart failure at home surrounded by family. She is survived by her loving husband Donald, daughter Deborah, son Michael and his wife Kym, grandchildren Brett Alan, Joshua, Steffanie, Alannah and Jack, great-granddaughter Iris Lily, Sisters Rita and Diane and Brother Richard, Aunt Sharon, and faithful dog Penny. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Duane Smothers.

Sheila was born July 19, 1950 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Upon graduation from high school, she worked for the FBI in Washington DC. Sheila and Don were married on November 2, 1968. Don and Sheila spent 21 years in the military, which took them across the country and including 4 tours in Germany, including Berlin. Their favorite souvenir from Germany was their son, Michael, born in Landstuhl. In 1989, Sheila was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She fought the cancer like a true warrior, and each time it came back she fought even harder. Her strength and courage became a source of hope and empowerment for other recently diagnosed breast cancer patients.

Sheila enjoyed genealogy, and any type of crafting, especially making scrapbooks and crocheting. She loved living at the beach, collecting rocks and occasionally going to the casino.

Sheila and Don were members of Oceanlake Christian Church in Lincoln City, Oregon. Sheila will be interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan.

Donations in Sheila’s memory should be made to Providence Benedictine Hospice 580 S. Main St, Mount Angel Oregon 97362.
