Obituary

Rodney Paul Baird was born on February 16, 1925 in Brewster, Kansas the 3rd born son to James Edward Baird and Florence Violette Dech. He was raised in Brewster, Kansas.

Rod met the love of his life Peggy Marie Saint who lived in the neighboring town of Goodland, Kansas. In 1945 they married and moved to Scotia, California. where Rod was employed at the Pacific Lumber Company. Following the tragic death of their first-born daughter, Nina, the family relocated to the bay area of California and Rod began his 28-year career as a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. In 1990 after another tragic death of their son Jack, they moved to Oregon and while building their new home they lived with Paula and Roger. In 2005 Rod lost his beloved wife of 60 years and moved to his manufactured home on Paula and Rogers land where he stayed until 2016 when he came to live at Lancaster Village. He loved it there and the devoted staff became like family.

Rod is survived by daughter and son-in-law Paula and Roger Brughelli, granddaughter Nina, great-
granddaughter Amanda, grandson Dan and his family, granddaughter Lori Audon and family, Mary and Tom Larkin, and a large loving family in Kansas whom he loved to visit often.

Rod loved people & made friends wherever he went. His favorite hangout in Salem was Sybil's Omelets where he enjoyed the company of the many devoted friends he made there.

The family is grateful to the Nazarene Church for their visits & prayers with Dad throughout his illness. A memorial service will be held on December 14th at 1:30 pm at Lancaster Village. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Willamette Valley Hospice who provided excellent care to Rod in his last days.

Did not know Rodney very long, although was a very wonderful person. He was passionate regarding the Raider football team. When he drove he would eat most of his meals at Sybils. He had s long great life. He always had tails about his bus driving time. He will be missed by many who know him.
