Obituary

Loweta Tabitha Morton was born in Konawa Oklahoma on 08/30/1943 to Rudolph Charley Payne and Dorothy Bernice Payne nee Waite, she died 01/30/2017 at the age of 73.

She is survived by her sisters; Shirley Shinault, Sharon Sanders, and Darlene Stradtman, and her brothers Tommy, Timmy, and Roger Payne.  She is also survived by her children; Lois Cornwell her spouse Eric Cornwell, Joanna Bjornstad her spouse Ron Bjornstad, and Duane Morton and his spouse Sherry Snider Morton as well as her grandchildren by age: Jeremy Cornwell, Shawn Hicks, Jeffery Cornwell, Nathan Hicks, Louis Gellness, Alicia Jeppsen and Travis Morton, and her great grandchildren; Clayton Hicks, Mackinnley Hicks and Hailey Jeppsen.

She was preceded in death by her son John William Morton, her brother Charley Don Payne and her parents.

She traveled a lot in her youth. She was very familiar with the old Route 66 as her father would travel it several times per year for work. She worked in the fields of Oklahoma picking cotton and broom corn (which she hated) and in California picking fruit and vegetables, in Oregon picking strawberries and green beans and in Washington picking apples and pears.

She and her family settled down in Stayton Oregon in the early 70's where she was a long time resident. She settled in this area so her children could go to the same schools and have a more settled life instead of traveling all the time. She was a caretaker not only to her own children but also adopted and raised her Grandaughter, Alicia, took in two foster children and various family members at different times of their lives when they needed a place to get on their feet.

Her family were long time residents of the Konawa Oklahoma area. Being displaced during the Great Depression. There are still oil rigs with the Payne and Waite names visible on them in the area.
