Lorri Lynn Cooper, 60, of Salem, Oregon, passed away Thursday, February 7 after a three year battle with breast cancer.

She was born in Albany, Oregon on October 11, 1958 to Bill and Karen Mayhew. After the death of her mother, Marilyn Erickson Mayhew joined the family, adopting and raising Lorri and her sister. Lorri was raised in Renton, Washington and graduated from Tyee High School. She attended Puget Sound Christian college for two years before marrying Val Cooper. They lived in Monmouth, Oregon and were married from 1980 to 2010.

Lorri worked for many years as a bookkeeper for a variety of businesses in Monmouth, Oregon. She also drove school bus for Santiam Christian Schools from 1992 to 1998. Lorri worked for the State of Oregon from 1998 to present, most recently as an Executive Support for the Water Resources division.

Lorri played piano on a worship team for her church for 40 years. She loved to cook and was passionate about quilting. In recent years, she began playing pool competitively. She loved people and often invited people into her home.

She is survived by four children: Rebecca Wages of Springfield, Oregon, Jennifer McMullen of Salem, Oregon, Carolynn Esary of Corvallis, Oregon, and Jonathan Cooper of Omaha, Nebraska. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, her father Bill Mayhew, and her sister Marsha Gustkey.

Messages of Sympathy

  1. Kristen Bayne McGaw says:

Lorri and I went through high school together, and always enjoyed catching up on our lives at Tyee class reunions over the years -- including the last one in the summer of 2017. I was so sorry to hear about her rapid decline and passing, but also glad to know she was surrounded with so much love and support. She was so very proud of all of her children and grandchildren, and I just wish that I could make it down to Salem for her service this coming week. Blessings!

Lorri and I went to Crestview Elementary, Chinook Jr High, and Tyee High school together. I'm so grateful that she was able to make it to our 40th reunion a couple of years ago and we got to hang out a bit before in Burien. She was a very sweet person and will be missed.

  8. Linda and Chip North and family says:

I always think of Lorri on Christmas morning, remembering her special cinnamon rolls she delivered to our family when my boys were little. As a mother of 4, her children being a bit older than mine, we shared a certain kinship. I always felt she was watching over our little family when the boys were young. Speaking of her delicious cooking, I always think of her when I make a batch of Texas brownies. Her servant spirit and many acts of kindness will be missed as well as so many aspects of her lovely nature.
