Obituary

Leah Escobar Swain left this world early on November 19, 2019. She was born March 1, 1992 in Lancaster, Ohio, the youngest of five children, to Randall and Dianna Swain.

Leah attended Eastland Performing Arts High School in Reynoldsburg, OH. After graduating from high school, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance and Theatre Arts from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI. After college, Leah lived in PA for a year, after which she moved to Salem, OR. In Salem, she worked in a special education classroom at Keizer Elementary School as an instructional assistant. More recently, she worked at Northbank Surgical Center as a medical assistant.

Leah’s love for life was contagious to all those around her. Her love of dance led her to meet and fall in love with Pedro Escobar. They were married on the beach at Neskowin, OR on August 10, 2019. Their daughter, Arabella Leah Escobar Swain was born on November 19, 2019.

Survivors include her parents, Randall and Dianna Swain of Amanda, OH; husband, Pedro; daughter, Arabella; and step-son, Leonardo Escobar (all of Salem, OR); siblings, Matthew (Lori) Swain of Salem, OR, Bethany (Seth) Watts of Shippensburg, PA, Zachary (Andrea) Swain of Lancaster, OH, and Rebecca (Christopher) Cain of Flagstaff; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass for Leah will be held at St.Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (1010 Columbia St. NE, Salem, OR) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019, to be followed by a Celebration of Leah’s Life at 3:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home (134 Missouri Ave. S, Salem), followed by a reception. Assisting the family is Johnson Funeral Home.

    Leah was such a lovely person. I was so very sad to hear she had passed. She was a big help and support to me during the time my husband was dealing with cancer treatments. I am praying for all her family during this time of sadness and grief.
