Obituary

Barbara Lee Dartnell was born in Aberdeen, Washington on February 13, 1938 to Jane Horne and Trevor Pattison. She passed away at her home in Salem, Oregon on October 11, 2018. At 17 Barbara married a serviceman named Fred Soda and followed him to France where he was stationed and had a son named Bruce. After 2 years she moved back to Washington state with one year old Bruce. She then met and married Ernest Stephens and had three children, Kimberly Stephens, Kathy Kirk, and Djo Stephens. She later met and married her husband Donald Dartnell in June of 1980, together with her 4, and his 5 children, they built a blended family.

Barbara worked for over 30 years in the medical field. She loved to travel and together she and Donald visited much of the United States and parts of Europe. She was an avid genealogist and spent 34 years defining her family history and helping others find their own ancestry. Barbara loved to quilt and would often share her time, knowledge, and sewing space in order to curate a skill she felt needed to be saved. She also enjoyed making cookies for the local LDS missionaries. Her light, laughter, and charitable spirit will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her three brothers Dale Pattison, Dan Pattison, and Mick Nicholas, her nine children Bruce Stephens, Dexter Dartnell, Della Murray, Kimberly Stephens, Kathy Kirk, Denton Dartnell, Djo Stephens, Deana Dartnell, and Melody Thomas. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and countless honorary family members.

It’s always so sad when a loved one passes away. She left behind so many family members that will miss her. We long for the time when death will be no more and we can enjoy life to the full. Rev. 21:4. My deepest sympathy to all.

  2. Lisa Oliver says:

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Losing those we love is the hardest thing we have to experience. May your hearts find comfort in Jesus words "...the hour is coming where all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...john 5:28, 29

  3. Mae Abshire says:

I’m so sorry for this terrible loss. It’s clear that Barbara touched many people and was a bright individual. At Isaiah 41:10, God says, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you...yes, I will help you.” God promises to be there for us, no matter what we may go through. He wants to comfort us in distressing times, and can help us fight light within the darkness. I hope all who mourn Barbara be well.

Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you.” God promises to be there for us in times of need, no matter what we may go through. He wants to comfort us, and can help us find light within this dark time. I hope that all who mourn Barbara be well
